Transportation

There are a variety of options for flying in Ireland and getting around the island. It is a very driving-heavy country, so you will want to rent a car or hire a driver for most activities.

Car Rentals

The most convenient way to get around in Ireland is to rent a car. They can be somewhat pricey, so be sure to book in advance. Double check it is automatic if you are unable to drive stick shift. They tend to be smaller cars than available in the US.

Many tourists in Ireland hire private drivers. It is a great option for larger golf groups, as they will have vans to carry all the golfers and equipment.

Private Drivers

The train system in Ireland, operated by Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann), offers a convenient and scenic way for tourists to explore the country. The main rail network connects major cities and towns, providing efficient transportation across Ireland. The trains are modern and comfortable, with amenities such as onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets, and refreshment services available on certain routes. Travelers can enjoy the picturesque landscapes as they journey through Ireland's countryside, making train travel an enjoyable and relaxing option for tourists. This is a great option for a day trip to another area with a train station, but not a reliable way to spend the entire holiday if you would like to see multiple areas or go off the beaten path.
